GUILDFORD HIGH SCHOOL
GHS Schools Triathlon
We would like to invite your pupils to compete in the second GHS school triathlon (swimming, cycling and running) on:-
Saturday 5th May; 10:00 - 12:00
This event is aimed at year 3 - 10 boys and girls of all abilities. The competitors are timed from when they enter the swimming pool, through both transitions until they have finished the running phase. All timing will be done using chip timing technology as used in Triathlon events.
The competitors may choose their distance:-
Year 3 must all do the INTRO level - 25m swim, 700m cycle and 500m run
Year 4 to 6 may choose between:
INTRO – 25m swim, 700m cycle and 500m run
SPRINT – 75m swim, 1400 cycle and 1000m run
Year 7-10 may choose between:
SPRINT – 75m swim, 1400 cycle and 1000m run
OLYMPIC – 125m swim, 2100m cycle and 1500m run
The indoor pool is 25m long. Children will be started at 5-10 second intervals into the pool. Swimming caps must be worn. Tumble turns and diving are not allowed, competitors must touch the end of the pool when turning at the end of each length. Competitors must swim on their front, no backstroke due to health and safety reasons.
Make sure your competitors have practiced changing as medals can be won or lost here! All competitors must wear shorts and boys must put on a t shirt before leaving transition (tri suits are fine).
Parents and teachers are not allowed in the transition areas after the race has started.
The cycle is on grass with a few turns and hills. The course is marshalled and marked around Stoke Park. There is strictly no cycling in the transition area. All competitors must have their helmets fastened before taking their bike off the rack. Competitors will not be allowed to take part without a cycle helmet.
The run is on grass and is mostly flat. The course is marked around Stoke Park. Trainers must be worn for the run. No studs or spikes.
Sadly there is limited parking on site for first come first serve along the driveway of the Sports Centre and at main school (400m down road) or at Spectrum (800m across Park).
CHIP TIMING SYSTEM
Each competitor will wear an ankle band which will electronically time them from entering the pool to finishing the run.
There will not be a prize giving at the end of the event, but individual timings will be available online after. All competitors will receive a medal, cookie and drink after their race and there will be catering for the parents.
Girls must wear a full piece swimsuit, boys must wear proper skin hugging swimming trunks – baggy surfing style board shorts are not permitted. All competitors must wear a t-shirt/vest and shorts for the cycle and run, unless they are wearing a tri-suit. Marshals will check clothing at the start of the race, please avoid disqualification by adhering to the rules. Boys are allowed to wear their long tight swimming shorts for the run as long as they exceed more than four inches down the inside leg measurement. Please make sure you go to the ‘Numbering’ table before the race briefing to get your numbers written on your arm and legs. Please note only race marshals are allowed to do this, do not attempt to write on your numbers yourself as they must be correct for course marshals to read them from a distance.
This will be emailed to the parents before the event. The race will be run continuously with small breaks between each wave. Marshals will collect each wave from the changing rooms and direct the competitors to the poolside.
It costs £15 per competitor to enter. Payment must be made via the online system.
There will be the opportunity to get tea, coffee, snacks and ice cream on the day.
